How I Helped Grow My Client’s Trading YouTube Channel
It’s a 5 step process, here’s the overview:
- Installed YouTube Funnels
- How I got the video idea
- How I scripted the video
- How I edited the video
- How I designed the thumbnail
- Help the client create more content & ride the wave
Now, let’s dive into each step in more depth:
STEP 1: Installed YouTube Funnels
The problem my client was facing was that he created random videos with no strategy.
So not matter who he hired to help him (thumbnail and video editing freelancer), it barely moved the needle.
I solved this problem by reorganizing his existing YouTube videos into top, middle & bottom-funnel playlists.
It is super important to understand this concept so you can see where I got the video idea from in the next section.
Look at the screenshot below with the definition and live examples of YouTube Funnels applied on my own YouTube channel:
For my client’s case who’s Forex Coach, here’s how I rearrange his YouTube playlists:
Content Funnel | Example Specifically For Forex Coaches/Course Seller |
---|---|
Top Funnel (Client’s Trading Journey) | My Trading Setup (You Won’t Believe How Cheap It Is) How I Started Trading |
Middle Funnel (How To’s) | How to Read Candlestick Charts How to Do Mechanical Trading Strategy |
Bottom Funnel (Client Interviews) | How Client Went from X to Y with My Coaching |

STEP 2: Where I Got the Video Idea From
Since the client’s YouTube channel is in the growth stage (around 3000 subscribers), I decided to focus on the middle funnel content strategy.
It’s basically anything that his target audience is actively searching for online. Here’s how I figured out what that is:
I went to Gemini Advanced AI (I recommend the paid version) – to ask for topic ideas.
Go through each idea and see which one resonates with you.
One of the topics that caught my eye was ‘mechanical trading.’ If it wasn’t for Gemini, I wouldn’t even know about this keyword.
So I copied & pasted the keyword into the YouTube search. VidIQ confirmed that the score is green (above 65 is good):
I remember during our discovery call, this client shared a story about one of his trading students who made some bad trading decisions and nearly wiped out his account.
But my client stepped in, coached him up, and used a particular trading strategy to completely turn things around.
He even had a chart as proof. That gave me an idea for a video thumbnail and title.
This are all the info that we gathered so far:
- the current video’s main idea is ‘mechanical trading’
- The target audience has a fear of ‘constantly losing’ or ‘blowing up their account.’
- I plan to use a similar graph pattern in the thumbnail
Merging everything together, here are the video title ideas I came up with:
- I started to go full-time trading AFTER I mastered this trading concept
- Just follow this trading strategy & easily go full-time!
- I STOPPED losing after I mastered this trading concept
- I Started With THIS Trading Strategy – Now I’m Full Time
- Overwhelmed? START with THIS IDIOT-PROOF Trading Strategy
You can see the thought process of how I came up with the ideas. The final version will be a combination of the above when you see it together with your thumbnail. You preview it using Thumbsup.tv.
STEP 3: How I Scripted the Video
Believe it or not, a script is essential for a successful video – you can’t just wing it and expect great results.
But don’t worry, you don’t have to memorize lines! I provided the client with a bullet-point outline covering the:
- Intro (the most important part)
- Body
- Outro (CTA)
This way, the client sounded natural while delivering a compelling message that kept viewers hooked.
For the intro, I use a formula like this:
Want to see how I craft these scripts with a template? Check out this video:
STEP 4: How I Edited the Video
Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to edit like Mr. Beast with all the ADHD-style editing to trick the viewer into watching your video.
The whole world seems to agree with this as this video has gotten more than 117k views:
You are a business owner and you are creating educational videos to do 3 things specifically:
- Help your target audience solve a problem.
- Showcase your expertise in the subject.
- Give them a chance to vibe with your personality.
Therefore, the star of the show is YOU & the thing that you’re trying to teach. Not the fancy video editing.
So I created a script in the form of a Google Slide for the client, and all he did was record himself going over the presentation & elaborating on the points in the slides.
That was literally it.
The only editing I did was to remove the word gaps. You can easily do this too with Descript AI. I have another video specifically on how to use this AI video editing tool:
STEP 5: How I Designed the Thumbnail
You don’t need to have top-dog Photoshop editing skills or hire anyone for that matter.
I used Photoshop, but the level of low skill required to produce the thumbnail can also be obtained on Canva.
This is a mock thumbnail with a stock image person. It is not the exact thumbnail, but it is very similar:
Can we all agree that this is a very simple thumbnail that does not require any advanced editing skills?
Here’s the thought process on how to design this shitty thumbnail that gets views. What really matters to create the thumbnail is this:
- What is the main idea you’re trying to deliver to the viewer? – Stop losing & turn their trading account around.
- Include the graph result as the background – the thing the viewer will get after they watch your video
- Include a decent pic of yourself with some reaction without looking cringy
- Use some accent element (arrow)
- Text & title need to maximize emotions (stop losing)
As a business owner looking to attract their ideal client profile, just design the thumbnail so it’ll clearly show what the viewer will get after watching your video. That’s it.
There is no psychological trickery to trick people into clicking on your videos like what you keep hearing people tell you to do online.

STEP 6: Making Sure Client Stays Consistent
Once you have a video popping, you need to CREATE MORE VIDEOS.
Don’t take your foot off the gas.
I sent the client a few scripts but he hasn’t recorded them as he got busy with his own business activities.
I had to constantly remind him to keep producing more videos to ride out this positive momentum:
It’s extremely hard to stay consistent if you’re doing this on your own. It makes sense to hire a YouTube agency like myself to have that accountability, so you’d:
- Consistently produce videos
- and consistently get leads for your Offer
That’s it. Thank you for watching.
