Case Study: How I Got 146 Leads in 3 Days for My Client with YouTube & X
Who is This Case Study For?
My Client’s Background
Zakwan is a financial advisor who earns commissions from recommending insurance and financial planning.
Financial advisors, insurance agents & property agents fall into the same bucket, where prospects tend to avoid you at all costs because they know that you’re trying to sell them something.
His main challenge is inconsistent quality inbound leads.
BACKSTORY: I bought insurance from Zakwan after being disappointed by so many sketchy insurance agents.
I was happy with my experience with Zakwan & thought that my struggles were relatable to others.
So I shared my story on my Finance YouTube channel & at the end of the video, I’ll tell my audience to fill out a form if they want to connect with my insurance agent.
I’ll then pass over the leads to Zakwan & he’ll hop on a call to close the deal.
We agreed on a revenue share of the closed deals through my lead form.

How Does My YouTube Funnel Work?
Your Turn to Get Leads! Follow My 7 Steps:
STEP 1: The Client’s Pain Points
The biggest mistake in marketing is focusing too much on selling.
People hate being sold to.
So, instead, create content that addresses the pain points of your target market. We can start by visualizing our ideal client profile:
- What are they escaping from?
- Where do they want to go?
- What do they fear?
- What’s holding them back?
- What are their limiting beliefs?
I know that many people have the same issues & fears I had when getting insurance. The two common roadblocks they face are:
- the fear of being ripped off by an agent who recommends unnecessary coverage with high payments, and
- the fear that the insurance company won’t pay up when something happens to you.
Great! These are POWERFUL emotions to drive human action.
Now, let’s create content to crush these fears.
STEP 2: Set Up Your Funnel
Before we start creating any content, we need a mechanism to convert views into leads. Some of your options are:
- Convertkit (email software)
- A form on your website
In my case, I decided to use a form on my WordPress website because it was free & quick to set up.
Use whichever is best for your scenario.
The Call-To-Action (CTA) for all of your content will be to tell the audience to fill out the form.
The people who do, are the ones who resonate with your story & have a high chance of converting into a client (warm leads).
Once you have this setup, we can start crafting our story:
STEP 3: Identify a Relatable Story
Alright, here’s the thing most businesses lack: STORYTELLING.
Why is it so important? Because simply telling your prospects how to do something is BORING.
For example, the message in my content is: Don’t buy insurance from an insurance agent but buy from a financial advisor. It’s too direct & sales-y.
Here are some tips for crafting your perfect story, ask yourself:
- Is it simple and easy to understand?
- Can as many people as possible relate to it?
- Does it hit their pain points?
- Does it end with a happy resolution to their problems?
If it ticks all those boxes, you’ve got yourself a winner. But where do you find good story ideas?
The best source is your own experiences. Think back to a time when you faced a similar issue and found a solution that worked for you. That would be an excellent story.
If you don’t have personal experience, ask others how they solved their problems. Then, simply borrow their story.
In my case, I used my up & down journey of finding good insurance as my relatable story. Because I know a lot of people are having the same problems.
Now, let’s put this message and story into action.
STEP 4: Outline Your YouTube Video
Before you begin shooting any video, it is necessary to start writing the outline.
The structure of a good story always follows the same pattern:
- Introducing the relatable problem
- Rising friction – try to fix it, but getting more problems
- Climax or turning point
- Resolution (takeaway or lesson)
- Call to action
Outlining the plot of your YouTube videos is crucial to avoid rambling and to keep the audience engaged throughout the video.
BONUS: If you expand the content within each point, you’ve just created a blog post! Ditch what you learned at school & write how you speak.

Now that you have your script ready, it’s time for lights, camera, and action!
STEP 5: Record Your YouTube Video
This is where the rubber hits the road. If this is your 1st video, I bet you’ll have a mad case of stage fright.
Here are some of my tips to make confident & engaging YouTube videos, even if you’ve never talked into a camera before:
- Imagine you’re hanging out with your best friend at your favorite cafe/dive bar.
- Now imagine the camera is your best friend & he/she is listening to you tell your story.
- Use your script to guide you to stay organized.
- Once recorded, get it edited & design a catchy thumbnail.
- Upload the YouTube video with the link to your form in the descriptions.

You’ve come this far, excellent job!
However, it takes a while for YouTube videos & blog articles to generate organic views.
How can you expedite the process of attracting traffic to your form?
Let’s explore the next step:
STEP 6: Create a Twitter Thread
Congrats! You’ve come this far. 98% of your competitors have given up at step 1. So pat yourself on the back 💁🏻♂️
Alright, in this step, I’ll share with you my little secret to cash in on short-term traffic: TWITTER THREADS.
You already have the blog post or script.
All you have to do now is extract bits of it & turn the info into a Twitter thread.

All the insurance agents that I met kept selling me:
💰 expensive insurance with
🔻 low coverage
So if you're:
1. Looking to buy your 1st insurance, or
2. Want to shop around for a better deal,
Learn from my mistakes:
With those kinds of numbers, some should convert into leads.
STEP 7: Watch the Leads Roll In
The Twitter thread gets short-term viral leads, while the YouTube video & blog posts capture long-term organic leads.
A truly potent marketing combo🔥
Just keep an eye out on your form & website. Make sure nothing breaks, especially in the sudden influx of traffic.
Imagine your email looking like this:
